Continued from post “Wedding: The Plotting”
When we found out we were pregnant, we had planned a surprise reveal party for the family and held it at my mom’s best friend’s house on Halloween. You can watch that announcement here, it’s amazing.
If you’ve never thrown a surprise party for someone before, or revealed something exciting, it’s a pretty amazing feeling. Seeing the amount of joy take over another person with news like this is so much fun. I highly recommend it.
The first reveal is my dad telling my mom about going to Disneyland. He cut their reservation short one day for their Reno trip and decided to say that my Aunt (who was on the trip with them) needed to go somewhere on Sunday, so they needed to leave a day early. No biggie. He acted like he just forgot to tell her (typical dad) and they enjoyed their trip.
In reality, they were leaving Sunday morning for Disneyland and he wanted to make sure mom had a chance to do laundry and pack whatever Disneyland essentials she usually brought on her trips. He had also arranged for their neighbors to watch their house and all their animals, so she didn’t have to worry about a thing.
We hadn’t left for the airport yet, so we planned on a video call with Bug to have her tell her Mimi (what she calls my mom) she would see her at Disneyland.
The resulting video is adorable, my mom’s “surprise” reaction never fails to make me giggle.
The next reveal was the wedding itself. At this point, we have set up that we would all meet for dinner at Tortilla Jo’s in Downtown Disney (our usual family dinner spot when we’re there). The only ones in the know for the wedding are me, Chris, my brother, and my sister.
Chris and I spent many evenings planning how this announcement would go. Ultimately, my siblings would be recording the reactions on my signal. We definitely toyed with me “ca-cawing” or something silly, but I opted for just standing would be the signal. I would wait until drinks were served and food was ordered.
I think it’s worth mentioning that Chris got a very harsh sunburn from the beach that day. And notice how many times I hit his shoulders and he winces. I DIDN’T EVEN REALIZE I WAS DOING THAT. Sorry, honey.
Now that the cat was out of the bag, we could finally discuss our plotting and enjoy the rest of our trip!
Tune in tomorrow for the next stop in this story, Wedding: The Execution.
